Yvette Marie (Vire) Duquette
CAPE ELIZABETH – Yvette Marie (Vire) Duquette, 92, formerly of 7 Ocean Park Road, Old Orchard Beach, passed away on July 18, 2024 at the Gosnell Memorial House in Scarborough.
She was the eldest of six children, born on March 9, 1932 in Biddeford, to Marie Eva Neault and her husband Joseph Emile Vire. Yvette attended Notre Dame Catholic School in Biddeford before moving to Old Orchard Beach. On Easter Sunday, 1950, she met her future husband, Raoul W. Duquette, and they were married at St. Margaret’s Church in Old Orchard Beach on Jan. 6, 1951.
During the 1950s, Yvette worked at M.J. Fishman’s store, JJ Newberry’s, and John Roberts, all on Main Street in Biddeford. She also worked at Roy’s Restaurant in Old Orchard Beach during the summertime. In the 1960s, she was employed as a department manager at Fairchild Semiconductor in South Portland. Yvette attended the York Beauty Academy and became a licensed cosmetologist, a career she enjoyed for many years until her retirement. In retirement, she and her husband owned and operated Duke’s J & T Gift Shop.
In the Fall of 2015, Yvette moved into the Woodlands Cape Memory Assisted Living Facility in Cape Elizabeth. Since the pandemic, she has survived three bouts of Covid.
Yvette’s legacy continues through her three sons, two daughters-in-law, and a daughter, Ralph Duquette of Old Orchard Beach, Robert and Kathie Duquette of Wyomissing, Pa., Richard and Susan Duquette of Biddeford, and her daughter, Linda Newkirk, Columbia, Mo. Her surviving siblings include her brothers Louis (Pete) Vire of Old Orchard Beach and Donald Vire of Kennebunk, as well as her brother-in-law, Roger Duquette of West Chester, Pa.
Her cherished grandchildren are William Charles Duquette and his wife Gigi of Saco, Nicholas Matthew Duquette and his wife Ekaterina of Charlotte, N.C., Heather Marie Duquette of Waterville, Clifton Robert Duquette and his wife Lee Marie of Spring Township, Pa., Casey King Duquette of Temple City, Calif., Katie Arlene Duquette of Philadelphia, Pa., Michelle Amanda Duquette of Homestead, Fla., Sara Kate Cassidy of Woodstock, Ga., Mark Daniel Duquette and Melissa Ann Phillips of Biddeford, Joshua Ott and Alissa Ott Jackson both of Dickinson, Texas, and Lindsey Ott of Columbia, Mo.
Yvette also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Emmanuel Francis Duquette, Annabella Jeanne Duquette, and Andrew Nannery Duquette of Saco, Evan Daniel Duquette and Vivienne Lorraine Duquette of Charlotte, N.C., Avery Rose Czarnecki of Waterville, and Brayden Duquette of Spring Township, Pa.
She was predeceased by her husband, Raoul W. Duquette; a brother, Andrew Vire; her daughter-in-law, Lois Marston M. Duquette; and her sisters-in-law Claire Duquette of Pennsylvania and Diane Duquette Divasto of East Haven, Conn.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday July 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hope Memorial Chapel in Biddeford. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 26 at 10 a.m. at. St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Rd., Scarborough, ME 04074, followed by the burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
