O’Neil Phillip Laitres
SANFORD – O’Neil Phillip Laitres, longtime resident of Sanford, passed away on the morning of Monday, July 15, 2024. He was 85 years of age.
O’Neil was born in Sanford on Nov. 3, 1938, the second youngest of 14 children born to Edward and Mary (Grenier) Laitres.
After serving his country in the Army National Guard, O’Neil spent his career as a machine operator. Additionally, he was involved for many years with Kennebunk Fire and Rescue. He enjoyed playing softball and he loved to bowl.
O’Neil was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Mary Laitres; his first wife, Lorraine Lillian Laitres; and 12 of his brothers and sisters, Jeanne, Aldea, Anita, Ramond, Marieange, Merilda, Emile, Azelda, Rose-Amee, Lauriana, Ernestine, and Raoul.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine V. Laitres; his stepsons Thomas Lavertu and his wife, Linda, and Daniel Lavertu and his wife, Debbie; his sister, Rose Plante; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, July 23, at 11 a.m. at St. Martha’s Church, 30 Portland Rd., Kennebunk, followed by his interment at Hope Cemetery in Kennebunk.
The family of O’Neil would like to give our sincere thanks and appreciation to all of the staff at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, and at MaineHealth Maine Medical Center in Biddeford for all their help, care and compassion in the last few weeks.
