James Arthur Snow
TOPSHAM – Jim, 73, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2024 after a valiant three-year battle with Alzheimer’s. His steadfast courage and enduring spirit during this time were a testament to his strength and resilience.
Jim was born on Feb. 15, 1951, in Hyannis, Mass., the son of Arthur Snow and Marilyn Hayes. Jim spent his early years living on Cape Cod. He attended Barnstable High School (class of 1969), where he met the love of his life, Laurie Van Buskirk. Jim continued his academic journey at Boston College, where he excelled in his studies and was a proud member of the collegiate band, graduating in 1973. His pursuit of knowledge didn’t stop there, as he went on to earn his MBA from Suffolk University.
In 1976, Jim and Laurie were married in Hyannis, Mass. and lived the next nine years in Marstons Mills, Mass. Jim worked at Data Management Systems (DMS) in Hyannis, Mass., and also United Brands at the Prudential Center in Boston, Mass.
In 1985, the couple, along with their three sons, Dan, Ben and Mike, moved to Scarborough. While living in Maine, Jim spent the next 30 years of his professional life as a Systems Analyst at Hannaford Brothers in Scarborough. His commitment to his work was unparalleled. He was a reliable and respected member of the team, known for his analytical mind and problem-solving skills.
Outside of his professional life, Jim was an active and enthusiastic participant in the Scarborough Little League for many years. His passion for sports extended to a lifelong dedication as a Boston sports fan. Jim was a fervent supporter of the Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots, and Bruins. He also found immense joy in attending local high school sporting events to cheer on and support student-athletes.
Even while living in Maine, Jim still returned to Cape Cod at least twice a year where he spent wonderful days with his mother Marilyn and his three siblings, Sandy, Carol Anne and Chris. Jim was known for his quick wit and his over-the-top jokes and stories. These trips to visit family on the Cape were a highlight of his year, and it brought him great joy to reunite with his brother and sisters. While on the Cape, Jim especially enjoyed long (and oftentimes very cold) walks at Fort Hill, fishing for Bluefish at Dowses Beach and bike riding along the Cape Cod Canal in Bourne, Mass.
Jim’s hobbies and interests were as varied as they were vibrant. He was an avid fisherman, theatergoer, music enthusiast, a talented cook, and a connoisseur of fine wine. He found peace and happiness in the great outdoors, enjoying activities such as hiking, biking, and canoeing. These pastimes allowed him to connect deeply with nature and create lasting memories with family and friends. After retiring in 2017, Jim and Laurie moved to Topsham. Jim spent the following years enjoying being a grandfather to his four grandchildren, whom they called “Buppa.”
Above all and most importantly, Jim will be remembered as a committed husband, a dedicated father and a wonderful provider. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jim is survived by his wife, Laurie Snow of Topsham; son, Daniel Snow (Marly Castrillon) of Naples, Fla., son, Benjamin Snow (Anna) of Windermere, Fla. and Michael Snow (Clota) of Topsham. Jim is also survived by his three siblings, Sandra Bollen (Edward) of Southport, N.C., Carol Tesconi (Lee) of Dover, Mass. and Christopher Snow (Jane) of Barnstable, Mass. Also surviving are nine nieces and nephews; and four grandchildren, Zoey, Sydney, Jack and Ava.
A special thanks to the staff at Avita of Brunswick for their wonderful care and support, and also to Affinity Hospice of Maine.
A private service will be held to honor Jim’s life and legacy.
