Sarah Madeira Day’s paint-covered hand holds up her painting of Dix Point in Tremont, Maine. It’s one of many images featured on Instagram.

Cumberland-based artist Sarah Madeira Day has been working full-time as an artist since about 2017.

She primarily uses acrylics on canvas because water-based paints are easier to work with and emit less fumes than oil-based. She’s also a fan of charcoal and watercolor.

Madeira Day’s artwork captures Maine’s natural beauty, including the ocean, beaches and flowers. She also paints still lifes.

Madeira Day said she’s been an artist her whole life. “I had the luxury of growing up in a family that encouraged my interest in art, coupled with being raised in a town where art classes were part of my public school curriculum.” (She attended Pemetic Elementary in Southwest Harbor and Mount Desert Island High School.)

See Madeira Day’s Instagram for images and videos of her artwork. Posts often feature items you can purchase, including paintings, prints and note cards.
