Edward “Babe” R. Raymond

BRUNSWICK – Edward “Babe” R. Raymond, age 98 (and a half), died Wednesday July 10, 2024, at Mid Coast Hospital with his loving family by his side.

He was born Jan. 5, 1926 in Frenchville, ME, the son of Edward J. and Cecile Pelletier Raymond. He attended St. John’s School and was a graduate of St. Francis High School, Biddeford. He was a US Navy veteran. He married Laurette Caouette at St. John’s Catholic Church, Brunswick, on June 16, 1945. Mrs. Raymond died Feb. 26, 2020.

Mr. Raymond was a barber most of his life. He owned and operated Raymond’s Barber Shop first with his father and later with his son. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and honored as their longest standing member, having joined in 1944. He was formerly a member of the American Legion, Post 202, Topsham. He tackled a daily Suduko challenge and was an avid cribbage and card player.

He was predeceased by his wife, Laurette; his sister, Anita Hill.

He is survived by five sons, Henry E. Raymond (Pauline) of Standish, Robert R. Raymond (Rose) of Rutherfordton, NC, David D. Raymond (Deborah) of Augusta, William G. Raymond (Deb) of Presque Isle, Marc E. Raymond (Iva) of Topsham, a daughter, Patricia L. Skelton (Ralph) of Bowdoin Center; 15 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to visit 6 – 8 p.m. Sunday July 14, 2024, at the Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 12 noon Monday July 15, 2024, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Brunswick.
