Mary Q. Shane
FALMOUTH – Mary Q. Shane of Falmouth passed away peacefully at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House on July 7, 2024.
Mary was born in Portland on March 3, 1948, the daughter of Richard Quarry and Rose (Sarzillo) Lewis. She was raised on Newbury Street in Portland, in an Italian neighborhood which she was very proud of. The friends she met as a child there remained some of her best friends to this day. She attended Portland Schools and graduated from Portland High School in 1967.
She had many jobs in her lifetime beginning at Eastern Book Company and ending with Oakhurst Dairy before retiring in 2020. Mary was an amazing Nana and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren after retirement. Mary was always willing to offer support to others whenever needed.
Throughout her life, Mary was known as a fierce lover of family, friends, and CAKE. Cooking for her family was always a favorite pastime. If you were lucky enough to be in Mary’s Red Sauce and Meatball Club, you knew you were loved by her. Mary also enjoyed spending time at the ocean with friends.
Mary was predeceased by her mother and father, a sister, Joan Lapomarda, and her son-in-law, Mark R. Caron.
She is survived by her children, Donna M. Caron of Portland and son Scott H. Shane of Portland; grandchildren, Audrey C. Caron and Bryce Shane; a niece Ann Marie (Lapomarda) Fulcher of Virginia; best friend of over 65 years, Phyliss Miller of Portland; and many extended family members and beloved friends.
At Mary’s request, no service will be held.
