Authorities “resolved” an active police situation in Old Orchard Beach Tuesday night following reports that a man was wielding a gun outside a grocery store.
Police had surrounded a man with a large gun outside of Landry’s Shop ‘n Save on Cascade Road, a store employee told NewsCenter Maine. Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said it is “a very active investigation” and could not confirm details of the incident as of 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. She said state police hoped to release additional information within a few hours.
Moss said that the incident began around 7 p.m. and ended around 8 p.m. While she heard that Landry’s Shop ‘n Save was on lockdown, she wasn’t aware that any other businesses had taken similar steps. Maine State Police were advising people to avoid the area, she said.
Moss said there is no threat to the public.
Attempts to call the store and speak to employees were unsuccessful Tuesday night.
