Officials are investigating a structure fire in Milo after first responders discovered human remains at the scene.
Crews responding to the fire around around 4:15 a.m. Sunday found human remains tentatively identified as 76-year-old Dwight Russell, Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a statement.
The fire occurred in a free-standing workshop on the property where Russell was living, Moss said.
The Office of State Fire Marshal was called in to investigate after the body was found. The investigation is ongoing, Moss said.
The man’s body has been transported to Augusta, where the Office of Chief Medical Examiner will confirm the identification.
