Robert “Bob” Jones
RAYMOND – Robert “Bob” Jones, 84, passed away on May 22, 2024, at his home after a very brief but courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Boston, Mass. on Aug. 7, 1939, son of the late Robert and Marjorie (Moody) Jones. After graduating from Woodbury High School, Bob went on to study at Danbury Teachers College and Northwestern University. He left to pursue the family business and his career in insurance. Bob married the love of his life, Elaine Lazesky, in 1963.
Bob was active in the insurance industry and also active everywhere he lived in town politics and activities. He was a member of the Young Republicans in Woodbury, Conn. and he was also a long time member of Lions Club International in several locations including Windham, Lady Lake, Fla., and was a charter member in Raymond. Bob was also a member of the Rotary Club of Berlin/Gorham, N.H. He served on the Board of Finance in Raymond.
After working in insurance in the late ’70s, he left to manage McDonald’s for Leclerc Management in South Paris, Gorham, N.H., and Windham. He returned to insurance in the ’80s. In his later years, he worked at Publix in Florida and Tennessee, and Hannaford in Windham.
The Joneses were active members of the North Windham Union Church until moving to Florida. Bob and Elaine moved to The Villages, Fla., for retirement and stayed until 2019 when they moved back to Raymond to be close to family. While in Florida, Bob was active in Lions, in the neighborhood with friends, and was an active member of Live Oaks Community Church.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, going fishing, growing tasty vegetables, visiting Cape Cod, playing games, and following politics with strong political opinions.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine (Lazesky) Jones; his children Kathi Anderson and her husband Jamie of Raymond, and Wendy Jones of Westbrook; his brothers Richard, Douglas and Kenneth Jones of Connecticut, and William of Tennessee; three grandchildren, Nicole, Cameron and Christopher; and one great-grandchild, Oliver.
Bob made friends wherever he lived and was a kind and giving man, always ready to help a neighbor or join a gathering.
The family would like to thank Beth, Monica and Heather and the team from Hospice of Southern Maine.
A memorial service will be planned for the fall, Bob and Elaine’s favorite time of year.
In lieu of flowers,
contributions can be made to their new home church, The Refuge Church, 765 Roosevelt Trail, in Windham,
