The Portland City Council unanimously voted Monday night to bring back weekend festivities to Baxter Boulevard beginning May 5.

Sundays on the Boulevard, which began in 2014, made a return from a two-year hiatus last fall after crews completed construction on roadwork in the area.

The boulevard will be closed to vehicle traffic between Vannah Avenue and Catafalque Drive every Sunday from 9 a.m. through 4 p.m., through Sept. 29.

The closure opens up the mile-long stretch for unfettered access for pedestrians, bicycling, roller-blading, skateboarding and community gathering.

The event also feature food vendors and local artists.
