A fire that destroyed a home at 57 Kimball Corner Road in Sebago was brought under control late Thursday night with help from firefighters from several neighboring departments.
Sebago Fire Chief Philip Strike said that a man and a woman who were in the home escaped safely. No one was injured.
The Office of Maine State Fire Marshal identified the source of the fire as a generator that was located outside the home. The generator caught fire – the cause was not known – and spread to the home.
There are no hydrants on the road so multiple tankers had to truck in water from Sebago Lake and Nason’s Brook to fight the fire, Strike said.
The fire was reported around 4:30 p.m., but by the time firefighters arrived the home was partially involved in flames. Strike said the home was completely destroyed.
Kimball Corner Road was closed to traffic for a good part of the evening, but had reopened by 9 p.m.
Firefighters from Sebago, Standish, Naples, Baldwin, Casco, Bridgton and Denmark responded to the fire.
