David Kingsley Rice

OLD ORCHARD BEACH – David Kingsley Rice, 72, of Old Orchard Beach, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023 at Maine Medical Center, surrounded by loving family members.

David was born to Arthur Kingsley Rice and Janet Leighton Rice on April 1, 1951, in Eastport, Maine. David had five siblings and the large family moved to South Berwick, Maine in 1964 where David later attended Marshwood High School.

David, affectionally known as “Grampa Dave,” had three great loves: his daughter Tina, and his grandchildren, Calia and Nolan. When Tina was diagnosed with cancer, David established “Tina’s Troops,” a fundraising team for the Dempsey Challenge. David was a big presence at his grandchildren’s sporting events. No matter the season or weather, he attended all their games and races. David was always the loudest and friendliest spectator in the crowd. He even tried skiing again at age 68, after many years, just to be active with his grandkids. David loved sports and enjoyed watching the Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins.

Family was very important for David. He would be the first one to help his family in sickness and in health. A point person when it came to helping to coordinate family events. David enjoyed spending time with friends too. He always looked forward to meeting friends for breakfast or grabbing a beer at The Brunswick in Old Orchard Beach.

David is survived by his sister Jane Lever of Orono, brother Jerry Rice and his wife Christine Curtis of Bangor, brother Alan Rice of South Berwick, brother Dwayne Rice and his wife Sandy of South Berwick’ son-in-law Kevin Browne and his wife Heather and grandchildren Calia and Nolan Browne of Falmouth; as well as several nieces and nephews.

David was predeceased by his daughter Tina Marie Browne; his mother Janet Leighton Rice, his father Arthur Kingsley Rice; his sister Sally Rice Perry; and his nephew Christopher Michael Perry.

Per David’s wishes there will not be any services but there will be a celebration of life, in the near future, at one of David’s favorite places.
