SOUTH PORTLAND – Beverly Joan (Hall) Legere, 89, passed away at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice house with her four children by her side on Oct. 28, 2023 after experiencing a serious medical event a few days earlier.
Beverly was born in Portland on Feb. 20, 1934 to the late Wilma (Frank) Hall and Everard E. Hall. Her childhood years were spent growing up in Westbrook and on the extended family farm in Gray. During high school she moved to South Portland, graduating in 1953. She married Roger C. Legere June 22, 1957. They started their family in the Panama Canal Zone while Roger was stationed in the Navy. After a few years, Roger’s transition to work in the insurance industry led to living in Pennsylvania, Indiana, and New Jersey. They returned to Maine in 1967 with their three sons (Dan, Don and Randy). Upon returning, their daughter Renee completed their family, and they ultimately settled and raised their family in South Portland.
While raising her children Beverly was a cub scout leader, a nanny, and representative for Avon and Market Research. The family enjoyed many summers boating along the coast of Maine. After retirement, Beverly and Roger traveled to all 50 states in their RV before spending their winter months in Leesburg, Fla. until Roger passed away in 2009. Shortly after, Beverly moved to the Betsy Ross House in South Portland, enjoying the friendships and socializing. She was very active, playing tennis and golf until she was 79 and walking regularly until her passing. Beverly loved to be around people. Most of all, she loved to dance, often coaxing others to join her wherever space could be found.
Beverly was predeceased by her husband, Roger; infant child, Kenneth; and brother, Reginald E. Hall. She is survived by her children, Daniel K. (Polly), Donald C. (Nina Garrison), Randall P., Reneé L.; 11 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
A graveside burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 1 from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway. A celebration of Beverly’s life will be announced at a later date.
