Mark A. McAuliffe
SCARBOROUGH – Mark A. McAuliffe, 66, of Scarborough, died peacefully in his home on Oct. 21, 2023. He was born in Brighton, Mass., a son of Robert E. and Helen A. (Connolly) McAuliffe.
Mark received a B.A. in Economics and Administrative Science from Colby College and a master’s degree in Management from the Sloan School of Business, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Mark worked at Bath Iron Works from 1981 to 1994, rising to Vice President of Planning and Materials. He then became Managing Partner at Orthopedic Associates from 1994 to 2006. From 2006 to 2008 Mark was the Chief Clinical Operations Officer at Martin’s Point Healthcare. In 2008, he along with four other partners, opened Apothecary by Design Pharmacy on Marginal Way in Portland.
Mark was active in many local non-profit and professional organizations including the Portland Community Chamber of Commerce, where he served as President from 2002 to 2009. He was a Trustee of the Tilton School, and was on the Board of Directors of The Maine Health Management Coalition. He also served on the Bayside Trail Campaign Committee. Mark was an avid hiker and outdoorsman who volunteered in maintaining a portion of the Appalachian Trail since 2005. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his beloved brother, Robert E. McAuliffe, Jr. and his wife Lois of Medfield, Mass., two sisters, Cathleen Moynihan and her husband James of Naples, Fla. and his twin sister, Maureen A. Clang and her husband Brian, also of Naples, Fla. Mark is also survived by his much beloved nephews and nieces, James Moynihan III and his wife Jordan of Washington, D.C., Meghan Moynihan of Portland, Kevin Clang of Salem, Mass., Alyssa Clang of Palo Alto, Calif. and Connor Clang of Easton, Mass. In addition to his family he is remembered by his caregiver, Lindsay Knapp, who provided him much love and support.
A service for the celebration of his life will be held at Jones, Rich and Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. in Portland, at 11 a.m. on Nov. 2.
