Mary Ellen Burns

MANASSAS, Va. – Mary Ellen (Borst) Burns, 82, passed away peacefully in her sleep from complications of Alzheimer’s on Oct. 19, 2023, in Gainesville, Va. She was born on Aug 6, 1941, in Portland, Maine, and is preceded in death by her parents Herman and Evelyn Borst.

She married RJ Burns, her high school sweetheart, and they stampeded through a life of adventure around the world with the Navy and later with other government agencies. After traveling and living on three continents over 30 years, they settled in Manassas, Va. where she was an active member in the Ladies Auxiliary of the George Brent Council of the Knights of Columbus. Her family is honored to witness the love she shared with RJ during their 64 years together.

She is survived by her loving husband, sister Patty Shepard; daughter Karen and husband John, son RJ Jr. and wife Jen; and grandchildren Caitlin, Sierra, and Daniel. She was admired, cherished, and loved by all who knew her.

Visitation services will be held Oct 30 at Baker-Post Funeral Home from 4 to 6 p.m. Funeral will be held Oct. 31 at All Saints Catholic Church at 10 a.m. If attending please wear her favorite color, blue, in her memory. Interment and repast to follow.
