I write this letter in support of Eleni Richardson, at-large candidate for South Portland School Board. I have known her for 14 years, and there is no better person I can think of to serve as an advocate for our children, teachers, schools and community.
Richardson, a parent of two young children, is a dedicated supporter of our schools. This is apparent in her regular communications with teachers, parents/caregivers and the administration, and her regular attendance at school events and district-wide meetings. I have been impressed with her thoughtful approach to the plethora of complicated issues that we as caregivers and members of the broader community face, in particular the need for transparency so everyone can be aware of and participate in important decisions impacting the schools and our children.
I strongly urge you to consider voting for Richardson, a vote which will support the entire South Portland community.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
