I urge my fellow residents of Freeport District 2 to vote for Eric Smith for town council. Smith, who grew up in Freeport, moved back 10 years ago to work and become an active community member. He is executive director of the Freeport Historical Society. He cares about Freeport’s future. He was instrumental in establishing the relationship of the First Parish Church with Meetinghouse Arts, which is leading the way in Main Street’s revitalization. A participant in development of the Downtown Vision Plan, he now wants to help implement it. For six years the district has been blessed with Ed Bradley as its councilor. Bradley helped momentum build addressing Freeport’s challenges. Affordable housing availability, downtown revitalization and climate action plan implementation are present challenges that Smith wants to help Freeport address. Give him the opportunity; vote for Eric Smith on Nov. 7 or at town hall through Nov. 2.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
