Ruby Tyler

APOPKA, Fla. – Ruby Tyler, 103, of Apopka, Fla. formerly of Portland, passed peacefully Sunday morning Oct. 15, 2023 at Brookdale Senior Care. Ruby would have celebrated her 104th birthday this coming December.

She was born in Portland on Dec. 19, 1919 the daughter of Christiania Coffin. She attended Portland schools graduating from Deering High School. She also went on to graduate from beauty school. Ruby worked for the former Porteous, Mitchell & Braun on Congress Street, and worked for Brighton Avenue Pharmacy.

She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Portland.

Ruby was predeceased by her husband, Harry Tyler; and her son, Harry S. Freeman, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Judith Shibles of Longwood, Fla.; grandsons Stephen Shibles of Deltona, Fla., Matthew Shibles of Mount Dora, Fla., granddaughters Kelly Nickerson and Kristin Koch of Buxton; and seven great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life for Ruby will be held Tuesday Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. at Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Interment will follow at Tory Hill Cemetery, Buxton.
