Marilyn Jane Brasier

PORTLAND – Marilyn Jane Brasier, 80, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2023 at Maine Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born May 10, 1943 in Portland, the daughter of Arthur E. Brasier and Edith Adelaide (Redmond, Brasier, Lindsey). Marilyn attended local schools graduating from Deering High School in 1961. She looked forward to her reunions and worked diligently as the class reunion committee secretary.

Working two jobs for many years to support her family as a bookkeeper starting at Catherine Morrill Day Nursery and then retiring from the City of Portland where she made many life-long friends. She was nicknamed “Grammie Pizza” by her grandchildren because her second job was at Angelone’s Pizza on Washington Avenue.

She had a wanderlust for travel which expanded the globe. There wasn’t a train that she wouldn’t take including the Trans-Siberian Express. She rode camels in Egypt and visited her friend Doris in Africa where she went on safari. Marilyn enjoyed visiting New York City as well as family on the west coast. She traveled with friends and alone in areas that made her children concerned, but she was at her happiest when doing so.

She took pride in her garden, dabbled in photography and painting, family history, and antique cut glass. She was a veracious reader.

She enjoyed spending time at the family camp on Little Sebago Lake with her children and grandchildren and attending her grandsons’ sporting events. She made Christmas magical with her creative perfect wrapping and themes.

She was fond of her neighbors and their watchful eye on each other, her friend Marina, who she called “just to check in,” and girls’ group.

Marilyn is survived by her children, Michael C. and his wife Teresa and grandson William M. Whyte of Standish, Daniel E. and his wife Ann N. and grandsons Alexander N. and Samuel E. Whyte of Ocean Springs, Miss.; brother, Wayne A. Brasier of Otisfield; and nephew, Bruce E. Brasier of Portland; and many cousins.

Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, Arthur E. Brasier and Edith Adelaide (Redmond, Brasier, Lindsey).

Her untold stories of history and travel will be greatly missed.

In honor of her wishes, there will be a private celebration at a later date.
