BATON ROUGE, La. – John Albert Hayes Jr. passed away Sept. 29, 2023, at his home in Baton Rouge, La.

Born to Jack and Theresa Pistorio Hayes in 1941, he grew up in Wells and attended Wells High School. He graduated in Chemical Engineering from the University of Maine. In 1968, the family moved to Baton Rouge, La. where John worked in his field until 2018.

John was a member of LSU Track and Field Association for over 40 years; Baton Rouge Kids Baseball Clinic, the Baton Rouge Jaycees and JCI Senate.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael; and his brother, Robert.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Karen Bridges Hayes; his daughter, Stephanie Gervais (Ron), his son, Christopher (Laurie); four grandchildren, Jillian Cox, John “Trey” Cox (Benita), Tyler Hayes and Peyton Hayes; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Interment will be at Ocean View Cemetery, in Wells at a later date.
