Henrietta “Red” Marino

CAPE ELIZABETH – Henrietta “Red” Marino, 98, of Cape Elizabeth died on Sept. 15, 2023, just shy of her 99th birthday on Oct. 4, 1924.

She was born in Caribou as an only child and was raised by her grandparents in Fort Fairfield. As a young woman, she moved to Presque Isle with her girlfriend, Pauline “Polly” (Levesque) Parker. There, she met and married John Edwin Marino and entered her first family, including his three siblings, Marion, Ann, and Robert which she loved.

Red took great pride in her husband’s and children’s accomplishments; Marcia Gayle (Marino) Corradini of Cape Elizabeth, Bradford John Marino, and his wife Ann Christy (Wallhaus) Marino of Port Charlotte, Fla.; her grandchildren, Dominick Jean Caillouet and his wife, D.Yvonne (Stewart) Caillouet of Keller, Texas, Alexander John Marino of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Angelina Christina Marino of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and great-grandson, John Bradford Caillouet. Red loved and cherished her nephews, John McDonough and Gerry Craig.

Red was predeceased by her devoted, and loving husband, John, on Nov. 24, 2004, and her much loved and appreciated son-in-law, Larry Corradini, III. The four of them made B&B travels memorable!

Red and John moved to Cape Elizabeth in 1961 to an idyllic

neighborhood, Brentwood Acres, and always said they couldn’t have picked a better place, where she lived until her death. She carried fond memories of so many friends and neighbors encountered over the years. Red was the bright light everywhere – in a room, at the grocery store, or from her deck – and recognized by all after her Oxford Casino commercial.

She enjoyed all of the people she met on her journey through life. She was active in many groups over the years, including the church, Bridge club, garden club, neighborhood welcome wagon and the Red Cross. While learning to ski with her kids, they enjoyed traveling to the mountains in her VW Bug singing all the way. She and John introduced their children to boating on Sebago Lake, with Ticker, their first hairy sibling. After raising her children, she worked for several doctors and became a well-known Avon Lady, which she so enjoyed.

Later in life, she and Marcia traveled often, usually sweeping friends up on the trips, whether to warm and sandy destinations or to foreign lands. She always made people laugh with her ready smile and blue, blue eyes. Red was magnetic and people sought her company. Our hearts will never be empty with memories of this unforgettable and wonderful woman.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service for both John and Red Marino, where military honors will be conducted for John, on Friday Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. at Riverside Memorial Cemetery, Spurwink Ave., Cape Elizabeth. Pastor Steve Savage will officiate.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Jones, Rich and Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland.
