KENNEBUNKPORT – Dr. Robert “Bob” Mitchell died recently after a long illness. He was born on Sept. 26, 1950, and was a native of Lowell, Mass. He held degrees from Merrimack College and the University of Maine where he obtained his masters and doctorate degrees.

Bob was named the first Executive Director of the Maine Council on Economic Education, a position he held for 30 years, and was the founder of the original Maine JumpStart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy. Bob was committed to serving his community through his service as Board Chair of the Downeast Big Brothers Big Sisters, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine and Maine Literacy Volunteers, as well as, his work as a board member with Maine Credit Unions. Bob loved the Sea Dogs and after retirement, he spent time as an Usher with the Sea Dogs and later served as head of security.

Bob was proud of his Irish ancestry. He was a good friend of St Mary’s University College in Belfast. He facilitated connections (in the Irish language, naisce) in the United States for the University which were long-lasting.
