She was born in Biddeford on March 19, 1936, a daughter of Harold and Laurette (Blanchette) Blackington. Her father worked for the railroad and the family moved to Haverhill, Mass. Elaine returned to Saco as a teenager and was educated from Thornton Academy.

She was a loving wife, homemaker and devoted Christian. Her great faith and strong beliefs guided her throughout her life. Her love of the Lord was always with her.
The 23rd Psalm had special meaning to Elaine.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
She is survived by her husband Paul H. McCallum Jr.; son Gary McCallum and wife Paula, daughter Laurie Valley and husband Garrison; three grandchildren Isaac, Ethan and Caleb and partner Emily; and two great grandchildren Lucas and Logan.
