Dorothy Paine Radebaugh

FALMOUTH – Dorothy Paine Radebaugh, of Falmouth, passed from this life peacefully on Sept. 16, 2023, attended by family and friends.

She was born in Springfield, Mass. on Jan. 4, 1925, the youngest daughter of Walter and Isabel Paine. Her childhood was filled with many happy memories together with her two older sisters and visits to North Sebago in the summer. Later, her parents ran a bed and breakfast there, known as the Laughing Loon Lodge. Dotty graduated from Colby Junior College in New Hampshire, where she studied to become a medical secretary. Her first job was giving X-Ray treatments at Maine Med.

Dotty married her high school sweetheart, John Franklin Radebaugh, after he returned from serving in the Army in WWII. During their 71 years of marriage, they moved many times in support of John’s career as a doctor. Both Dotty and John worked in underserved communities, including working with Cesar Chavez and the United Farm Workers of America, establishing a clinic in the San Joaquin Valley. When John was offered a position at Dartmouth Medical School, they returned East.

Dotty was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her cheerful, positive attitude and delightful sense of humor made her such a joy to be around. Through her kind and thoughtful ways she humbly lived out her personal faith. She is remembered by those who knew her as a warm and gentle soul. Dotty enjoyed gardening and watching the many birds that would visit her feeders.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and is survived by her two sons, a daughter; two granddaughters; and many close family relatives, who will miss her deeply.
