KENNEBUNK – Come one, come all to Kennebunk’s annual Hazardous Waste Day.

Residents of Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Wells will have the opportunity to safely dispose of their hazardous waste on Sept. 30 at the Kennebunk Public Services Department between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Participants must have proof of residency to participate.
Residents are encouraged to bring items such as oil-based paints, solvents and varnishes, dry cell batteries, swimming pool chemicals and transmission fluid for safe disposal.
The city has also released a list of items that may not be disposed of, which includes propane tanks, smoke detectors, asbestos, ammunition, prescription medication, and more. A full list of ineligible items and materials is available at www.kennebunkmaine.us/906/Residential-Household-Hazardous-Waste-Day.
The city has also issued a list of safety guidelines to follow when dropping off waste. They include tightening lids and caps on all containers, packing materials in sturdy, upright boxes, packing paint, pesticides and household cleaners separately, and refraining from mixing chemicals.
The guidance also reminds residents never to smoke while handling hazardous material.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
