Emily Octavia Hall

SCARBOROUGH – Emily Octavia Hall, 97, passed away at Gosnell House on Friday, Sept. 15, 2023, after a long illness.

She was born in Portland on Aug. 23, 1926 to George and Virgie Maxwell and grew up in Dry Mills, Gray where her parents owned the Dry Mills Store and Garage. She graduated from Pennell Institute in 1942 where she was on the girls’ basketball team.

In 1944, she married Donald B. Hall of Gray and lived in West Gray all her life until 2013 when she moved to Jordan Bay Place, Raymond.

She enjoyed working at Cook’s Hardware in Gray and the A&P Store. She was a member of the Gray Congregational Church. She had a remarkable memory of Gray’s history and the people living there.

Over the years, she enjoyed spending time with childhood friends, dancing, playing cards, knitting, skating, doing puzzles, and watching the Boston Celtics.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Bentley of Gray; granddaughter, Laura Tringali, husband, Peter and great-grandchildren, Sophia Tringali, Gianna Tringali, and Isabella Tringali of Wakefield, Mass.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Donald; daughter, Donna M. Hall; siblings James Maxwell, Dale Maxwell, Edra Wilkinson, Beverly Prince, and Sandra Maxwell.
