Roland T. Foster
FREEPORT – Roland T. Foster, 91, of Freeport, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2023, at Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was born Sept. 2, 1932, in Westbrook, the son of Leon and Ethel Blackstone Foster.
He attended Freeport schools and entered the U.S. Army serving in Korea. He was honorably discharged and worked for Lowell Oil in Freeport, had his own trucking business working, for the State of Maine. Later, he started his own paving contracting business, worked at Manns Chevron Station, then worked as a hand sewer for Freeport shoe shops. He also worked for LL Bean and retired from there. He was a head official at Beechridge Speedway in Scarborough for many years. Both he and his long- time partner Hilda Coskery ran Flying Point Campground for over 20 years. He then retired and spent his winters in Port Orange, Fla.
He had a long history of being active in Freeport, which included shoveling Main Street by hand. Roland’s favorite things to do were racing and watching Gunsmoke.
He predeceased by his brother James (Jimmy) and his domestic partner of 55 years, HIlda Coskery.
He is survived by his partner Millie Robinson of Freeport, and special people in his life Roland and Paul Coskery, Linda Cole, Victoria Coskery, and life-long friend Ken Mann, and his precious cat, Abby.
A graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Pownal on Monday, September 18 at 1 p.m. There will be no visiting hours.
