Sherman E. Hamilton

PORTLAND – Sherman E. Hamilton, 86, of Canco Road passed away Saturday July 22, 2023 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. He was born Oct. 26, 1936, the son of Leland and Elsie Ross Hamilton.

Sherman attended school on Chebeague Island and was in the last class to graduate from the island, class of 54. After high school, he served in the US Navy for 21 years. After his service, he worked for Factory Mutual Engineering Global as a boiler inspector for 22 years in their North East division.

After retiring, he worked as a lobsterman with his daughter Melissa on his boat that he named Melissa Darlene.

Sherman enjoyed hunting and supporting his children with their sports. He was President of the Casco Bay Youth Hockey program for six years.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years Esterann Hamilton of Portland; four sons Corey Gile of York, Shannon Hamilton of Edgewater, Fla., Sheldon Hamilton of Duxbury, Mass., and Jason Hamilton of Gilbert, Ariz. three daughters Rande Lynn Hamilton of Brunswick, Shawn Dell Hamilton of Windham, and Melissa Hamilton of Portland; a sister Holly Dixon of Freeport; 10 grandchildren, four step grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.

A gathering will be held at the Chebeague Cemetery, North Rd, Chebeague Island Saturday Sept. 23, 2023 at 1:15 (12:30 Boat). The gathering will conclude with US Navy Military Honors. Get together to follow at Portland Eagles from 6 to 8 p.m.
