Lawrence “Larry” Hart
WINDHAM – Lawrence “Larry” Hart, 60, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2023, at Maine Medical Center with his family by his side after numerous complications from open heart surgery.
Larry was born on April 26, 1963, son of the late Robert and Charlotte Hart of Brunswick. Larry attended school in Brunswick then went to the University of Maine, Orono graduating with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics.
Larry started his career in 1986 at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Maine/Anthem in an entry level underwriting position and held various management positions in both the Underwriting and Actuarial departments. In 2014, Larry left Anthem to start his most recent career with Compass Analytics, now BerryDunn, as a Senior Risk Manager in Actuarial Services and Health Policy Analysis. This is an excerpt from the communication sent to the company informing them of Larry’s passing, “Larry was at the core of our work family and was a pillar of strength for our team. Larry was the type of rare person where everyone he touched in his life was better for the experience and frequently became life-long friends. His smile, his demeanor, put his clients and colleagues at ease, and was one of the most genuine people I have had the pleasure of know.” Larry was called both a wealth of knowledge and gentleman by many who worked with him.
Larry met his wife, Lisa, at BCBS and were friends for many years and ended in marriage in 1999. In 2002, their daughter, Elizabeth was born. Larry and Elizabeth had an extremely close relationship. They enjoyed skiing, hiking, trips to the beach, tubing on Little Sebago Lake, and enjoying certain TV shows together. Like Larry, Elizabeth was proficient in math, and he taught her how to do square roots at the young age of 6.
The pride that Larry had for Elizabeth was beyond measure. In 2019, Elizabeth gave Larry the gift of being a grandfather when the “apple of his eye”, Carter, was born. Larry decided he wanted Carter to call him “Grampy”, but Carter had his own name picked out and called Larry, “Gung”. “Gung” spent countless hours building with blocks, playing cars, hitting golf balls in the back yard, and, recently, started attending Carter’s sporting events.
Larry loved golfing and skiing. He also loved traveling and traveled to Austria to ski, Ireland, Scotland, Sanibel Island and many other places in the U.S., but his favorite trip was the trip he and Lisa took in 2017 to Africa. The last trip with his family was in 2022 to Sanibel Island.
He was preceded by his parents, Robert and Charlotte Hart.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Lisa (Johnson); his daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Jonathan Day; his grandson, Carter; his sister, Carolyn (Hart) Favreau; his mother and father-in-law, John and Fern Johnson; brother and sister-in-law, John and Laurie Johnson; four nephews, Eric and Peter Favreau and Daniel and Sean Johnson; and numerous other family members.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Online condolence messages can be submitted at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service website, http://www.mainefuneral.com.
In lieu of flowers, a college fund will be set up for his grandson, Carter.
