Ruby Sliwkowski scored seven goals and set up two others as Kennebunk, the No. 1 team in the Varsity Maine girls’ lacrosse poll, advanced to the Class A state championship game by beating fifth-seeded Marshwood, 15-3, in a Class A semifinal Wednesday at Kennebunk.
Mara Muse and Sophia Notine each finished with three goals for Kennebunk (16-0), which will take a 48-game winning streak into Saturday’s state final against Yarmouth. Camdyn Keenan chipped in with two goals and Elizabeth Hayes made six saves.
Isabelle Young, Liv Drake and Hadley Prewitt scored, and Lauren Walker stopped eight shots for Marshwood (11-6).
FREEPORT 9, WELLS 5: Lana DiRusso scored three goals and the top-seeded Falcons (15-1) pulled away in the second half to beat the fourth-seeded Warriors (11-5) in a Class C semifinal at Freeport.
Kate Tracy and Mia Levesque each had two goals and an assist for Freeport, which will play second-seeded North Yarmouth Academy in Saturday’s state final. Kiley Webber and Maddie Knight were the other goal scorers for the Falcons.
Caitlin Rooney and Anna Woodward got two goals apiece for Wells. Jess Palmer chipped in with one goal.
BOYS’ LACROSSE
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 7, WELLS 5: The third-seeded Panthers (11-5) ran out to a 4-0 lead and held off the second-seeded Warriors (12-4) in a Class C semifinal at Wells.
Zach Leinwand led NYA with three goals. Brayden Warde scored twice, and Grey Perham and Gavin Thomas each added a goal to help send the Panthers to Saturday’s state final against top-seeded Waynflete.
Wells got two goals from Hayden Bedell, and one each from Griffin Brickett, Brody Maxon and Gavyn Petrie.
CAPE ELIZABETH 15, THORNTON ACADEMY 8: Keegan Lathrop posted six goals and three assists, leading the top-seeded Capers (16-0) to a Class A semifinal win over the fourth-seeded Golden Trojans (11-5) in Cape Elizabeth.
Bobby Offitt added four goals and Tom Hennessey scored twice for Cape, which faces third-seeded South Portland in the state final on Saturday.
Ethan LeBlanc and Jacob Marcotte led Thornton with two goals and two assists each.
BASEBALL
EDWARD LITTLE 10, BANGOR 6: Caleb Albert hit a tiebreaking two-run single in the third inning, Brady Vincent belted a two-run double, and the eighth-seeded Red Eddies (12-7) beat the No. 7 Rams (10-9) in a rematch of last year’s Class A North final, in Augusta.
It’s the first regional title since 1992 for Edward Little, which will play for the state championship Saturday against South Portland.
Bangor was seeking its eighth regional title in the last nine seasons.
ST. DOMINIC 4, SEARSPORT 1: The second-seeded Saints (13-5) scored four runs in the first inning, and Tim Ouellette pitched a two-hitter as the defending Class D champions advanced to another state final with by defeating the top-seeded Vikings (14-4) in the South final at St. Joseph’s College in Standish.
Ouellette was hit by a pitch with one out in the first and scored the game’s first run on a double by Miles Frenette. Riley Daigle followed with an RBI single, and after another hit by Ethan Pelletier, both Daigle and Pelletier scored on an error.
Ouellette escaped a bases-loaded jam in the third after two walks and an error. Searsport got its only run in the sixth on an RBI single by Kyle Larrabee.
St. Dom’s will play Bangor Christian for the state championship Saturday at Bangor’s Mansfield Stadium.
SOFTBALL
OXFORD HILLS 4, SKOWHEGAN 3: Maddy Miller’s RBI single in the bottom of the seventh lifted the top-seeded Vikings (18-1) over the No. 3 River Hawks (16-3) in the Class A North final at Orono.
Skowhegan stunningly tied the game in top of the seventh when a dropped fly ball with two outs allowed two runs to score. But Oxford Hills answered in the bottom half to set up a showdown with Windham on Saturday in the state championship game.
NOKOMIS 6, HERMON 2: Megan Watson homered and drove in three runs, and the top-seeded Warriors (19-0) earned their first regional title, defeating the second-seeded Hawks (15-4) in the Class B North final at Brewer.
Watson erased a 2-1 deficit with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third, after Hermon scored twice in the top half. Raegan King added an RBI single during a two-run fourth, and Watson doubled home the final run in the sixth.
Mia Coots contributed two hits and struck out 10 to earn the win for Nokomis, which will return to Brewer on Saturday to face York in the state title game.
HALL-DALE 15, MONMOUTH ACADEMY 3: The top-seeded Bulldogs (19-0) broke open a 1-1 game with nine runs in the third inning and stretched their winning streak to 55 by defeating the No. 2 Mustangs (17-2) in the Class C South final in Gorham.
Hall-Dale, the two-time defending state champion, will return to the University of Southern Maine on Saturday to face Bucksport in the state final.
Torie Tibbetts and Karalyn Coro each had two hits and scored twice during Hall-Dale’s third inning outburst. Both finished with three hits. The Bulldogs capitalized on seven Monmouth errors.
Rita Benoit, the winning pitcher, struck out 12.
