The town of Falmouth celebrated the completion of its solar array at the caped landfill on Woods Road with a ribbon cutting ceremony June 9.
The solar array is expected to produce enough renewable energy to offset about 70-75% of municipal electricity use, according to the town, and has the potential to save the town about $2 million over its 20-year lifespan.
Constructed by Tangent Energy Solutions, the array was completed in April and will be operated by Madison Energy Investments. Central Maine Power will provide an interconnection from the solar array to the power grid, and if the array does not produce enough energy, CMP will continue to service the town at its current rate.
