State history of slavery
Vana Carmona will speak about the history of enslavement in Maine when the Buxton-Hollis Historical Society meets at 7 p.m. June 20 at the society’s headquarters, 100 Main St., in Buxton.
Carmona nine years ago discovered the grave of a man named Prince, who had been enslaved by her ancestors. Then she found that enslavement in Maine was more common than she believed.
The historical society is open from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays. For more information, the society can be reached at 929-1684.
