Donald L. Gilman
WINDHAM – Donald L. Gilman, 80, of Windham, passed peacefully on May 19, 2023. He was born on July 27, 1942, the son of Glendon and Virginia Gilman.
After graduating from Windham High School, Donny worked at Northern Utilities where he eventually retired from. Donny was a dedicated worker. He was involved with much of the natural gas piping in the City of Portland and surrounding towns. He was very proud of his work and enjoyed his many co-workers.
Donnie married his wife, Marilyn, and together they raised two sons, Peter and Thomas. “Gilly” was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a true Mainer in every sense of the word, through and through. He enjoyed gardening, fly fishing on Coldstream Pond and camping in the Jackman area, among many other secret spots. He had numerous stories to share and often stopped at the local coffee spots to tell and retell them, each time exaggerating them just a bit. Donny had a great sense of humor, always had a way of making you smile and laugh. He was generous and kind, never forgetting birthdays or other special milestones. Donny loved dogs, birds, and animals of all kinds. He will be forever missed by those who loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn and two of his brothers, William and Jack. He is survived by his son Peter and wife Tammy of Windham, grandchildren Kyle, Emily, Michael and Anna, son Thomas and wife Kristen of Gray, grandchildren Devin (Dalton Berube) and Matthew, his brother James, his long-time friend, Madeline Brown, and nieces and nephews including Jennifer Hughes whom he was especially close to. The family would like to thank the Gorham House, Maine Medical Center and Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for the wonderful care they gave him.
There will be a private, family graveside service at the Smith Cemetery in Windham.
