Lucille O’Donnell
SCARBOROUGH – Lucille O’Donnell, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2023, at the age of 86 at the Gosnell House. She was born in Frenchville, Maine, and her playful spirit touched the lives of many throughout her lifetime.
Lucille, born to Joseph Bouchard and Anna Deschaine Bouchard, was the youngest of 11 siblings. Lilly and Romeo Roy raised her following the loss of her parents at a young age. She attended Mount Merici Academy in Waterville and then went on to Aroostook State Teachers College.
Lucille began her teaching career in Caribou before continuing in the Scarborough School District as an elementary school teacher. Here, she forged lifelong friendships at Oak Hill Grammar, Bessey School, and Bessworth. She kept every card and student letter in boxes, a testament to the difference she made in so many young lives.
Family and friends were the foundation of Lucille’s world. Lucille’s large French-Canadian family valued togetherness and humor. Every cousin has great memories of time spent at Long Lake swimming, snowmobiling, and eating ployes. She could often be found making apple or shepherd’s pie for her grandkids, writing out yet another funny card, or sitting for hours on her porch with dear friends. Lucille found joy in the company of others.
Lucille was a woman of deep faith. She was a long-time parishioner of St John’s in South Portland where she served as a lector, member of the parish council, and religion teacher. She later joined the St. Maximilian Kolbe parish in Scarborough.
Her sense of humor was a hallmark of her personality, and she used it to bring laughter and light to every occasion. Her quick wit and infectious laughter created an atmosphere of warmth and happiness wherever she went. Her stories about her adventures were priceless. Every year she looked forward to traditions such as the Magic of Christmas and singing happy birthday on every family member’s voice mail on their special day.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Lori (Jeff) Barron of Falmouth, Michelle (Jim) Przybylowicz of Scarborough, Mark O’Donnell (Michelle Waco) of San Diego; former husband Michael O’Donnell of Falmouth; grandchildren Laura (Michael) Dedian, Tim (Emily) Przybylowicz, and Isaac Barron; as well as her great-grandchild Maya, were all blessed to have experienced Lucille’s unwavering love and guidance. Lucille also leaves behind her sisters Theresa Roy, Irene Macdonald, and more than 40 nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters Lillian Roy, Bernice Bowtruczyk, Claudette McNeil, Rolande Bouchard, Claire Martin, and her brothers Lucien Bouchard, Paul Bouchard, Rosaire Bouchard, and Roger Bouchard.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Scarborough Terrace Rose Garden and the compassionate team at the Gosnell Hospice House for their unwavering care and support. They also extend their gratitude to all of Lucille’s wonderful friends who have always been there for her.
Visiting hours will be on Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Hobbs Funeral Home in Scarborough, Maine. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at St. Maximillian Kolbe in Scarborough, Maine.
