A silent auction will be held from 5-7 p.m. June 3 at author Nathaniel Hawthorne’s boyhood home in Raymond, 40 Hawthorne Road.
Proceeds will go toward repairs of the historic house’s roof, exterior siding and interior walls.
Items to be auctioned include a five-course meal at Migis Lodge, four Portland Sea Dogs tickets, two tickets to “Titanic” at the Maine State Music Theatre, a two-night stay at The Inn at Ocean’s Edge in Lincolnville, a pontoon boat rental at Moose Landing, handcrafted Christmas decorations and more. A complimentary appetizer buffet with beer and wine will be available, and Dana Reed, also known as Capt’n Uke, will provide musical entertainment.
Donations to the repair fund also may be made online at hawthorneassoc.com through the mail to Hawthorne Community Association, P.O. Box 185, South Casco, ME. 04077.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
