KENNEBUNKPORT – On April 22, 2023, Jane Anderson of Kennebunkport died peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was born Janice Vaughan Coit in Massachusetts, the eldest of two daughters of Leicester and Vivian Coit. Jane spent most of her summers in St Martins New Brunswick with her maternal grandparents. She graduated from Acadia University in Nova Scotia.
Jane’s teaching career spanned three decades and two countries. Her first teaching job was in a one room school house in Nova Scotia where some of her students were older than she was and she began each day by breaking the ice in a water bucket and starting a fire in the woodstove. Many years later in 1991 she retired from Park Street School where she taught grade six for many years.
After she retired Jane kept busy working at Children’s House and expanding her art career. Jane was a talented artist and musician who always made time for a quick sketch or to play a bit of Chopin on the piano.
Jane was married to Ross Anderson from August 1957 until his death in March 2016. Their life together had ups and downs but, as anyone who knew Jane will tell you, she always focused on the ups and the adventures they enjoyed- raucous dinner parties with their friends, traveling to Portugal, camping and exploring the eastern seaboard.
Jane leaves her three children and their spouses, her four grand-daughters and their husbands/significant others, two great grand-daughters, and her sister Nancy and her family of Fredericton New Brunswick.
In accordance with Jane’s wishes, her family will hold a private celebration of her life.
If desired, donations in her name may be made to the Animal Welfare Society in Kennebunk, where many of the Anderson family pets came from.
