June Elizabeth Doughty

GRAY – June Elizabeth Doughty, 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother.

June was born in Falmouth on June 1, 1936 to Ida and Niels Garsoe and spent her childhood on their farm. She graduated from Falmouth High School in 1954.

She married Robert Doughty, of Gray on July 18, 1954 and off they went on their lifetime adventure. She joined Robert during his military service. They lived in Georgia, where their son Robert Jr. was born. The Army took them next to Massachusetts where their daughter Lesley was born and then to Nebraska where their son Scott was born. After her husband’s time in the military, they returned to June’s family home and lived there until 1999. Then they moved to Gray and after retirement were snowbirds splitting their time between Gray and Port Charlotte, Fla. When in Maine, she loved being near her family, very dear friends and the spirit of Maine. In Florida they found a flock of fun-loving Mainers and other winter escapees where they played golf, endless games of cards and enjoyed their second home until 2020. In 2021 she moved to Sedgewood Commons where she was very well cared for by the staff.

June graduated from the nursing program at Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute in 1975. She worked at Mercy Hospital, Maine Medical Center, and at several local nursing homes during her career. She was a very proud and dedicated nurse and loved her work.

June had many hobbies over the years including bowling, ceramics, painting, playing cards, golf, but most of all was a terrific cook – her pies and potato salad will always be remembered. She loved to travel and was always game for any adventure. She was witty, often hilarious, and not infrequently sassy, leading to lots of laughs and great memories. Many of June’s most precious days were those spent babysitting her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Robert; son Robert Jr. and his children Regan Doughty and Kayla (Robbie) Fox and their son Bjorn; daughter Lesley (Judy); and son Scott (Providence) and his children Niels, Amanda Mirabella (Michel), Travis and step-daughter, Melissa Ahirwe. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Eddie and his wife Beverly.

There will be a gathering to be with family and friends at 1 p.m. and a celebration of June’s life on May 4 at 2 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home on 24 Shaker Rd, Gray, Maine.
