LRHS student wins DAR award

Lake Region High School senior Rachel Lake is one of the three winners of the 2023 Good Citizen Awards presented by the Molly Ockett Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

The DAR Good Citizen program and scholarship contest, open to high school seniors enrolled in accredited public or private schools, aims to encourage and reward good citizenship. NSDAR is a volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to programs and initiatives promoting patriotism, preserving American history and securing America’s future through better education. Senior College spring session

Registration is now open for seven classes in the 2023 spring session at the Senior College at Bridgton. The classes, which will be held in person at Webb’s Tavern at the Magic Lantern, 9 Depot St., will take place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, April 24 through May 16.

Classes offered this session include Thoreau’s Walden, Tips and Techniques for Joyful Gardening, History of the Bridgton Area, Basics of Interior Design, History of the B&SR Railroad and the B&H Railway, Staying Active and Safe as You Age, and Discovery Through Aviation. With Easter Sunday just on the horizon, local churches are preparing to celebrate. LEA presentation and movie

The Lakes Environmental Association will present a Zoom program on Invasive Aquatic Plants in Maine at 6 p.m. April 19. The focus will be on invasive plants currently threatening our lakes, as well as their native lookalikes. Participants will also be instructed on new threats and how to prevent them.

The following night, April 20, LEA hosts a movie night featuring films about climate and alewife migrations. Movies start at 6 p.m. at the LEA Science Center, 51 Willett Road, behind Hannaford.
