Athena Linda Giftos

FREEPORT – Athena Linda Giftos, 48, of Freeport and formerly of South Portland, died peacefully in her sleep on April 1, 2023.

She was born on July 3, 1974, in Portland, to Linda Cabral and the late Sotero “Peter” Giftos. She attended South Portland schools and received her GED. Athena worked in the printing industry before moving to New York, and subsequently, Tennessee.

She recently moved home to Maine where she was the proud dog parent of Fancey Lynne Pickering. Athena made friends wherever she went and quickly knew the name and story of anyone she encountered. She had a great memory, loved to laugh and share stories, and was an extremely thoughtful and sentimental person.

Athena is survived by her mother, Linda Cabral and husband Edward; siblings Steve Giftos, Kimberly Meserve, Sotero Giftos, Jr. and wife Alicia; nephews Jonathan Meserve, Nicholas Meserve, Jarrett Giftos, Anthony Giftos, Sotero Giftos III, nieces Gabriella Giftos, Giuliana Giftos, Isabella Meserve; and a large extended family including special aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her father, Sotero Giftos.
