Margaret “Peggy” Turkewitz
SOUTH PORTLAND – Margaret “Peggy” Turkewitz, 81, died on March 30, 2023 after a long battle with vascular dementia.
Peggy was born in Portland on Sept. 6, 1941, the daughter of the late Robert and Mary (Conley) Crozier. Her family moved back to Lewiston where she attended local schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in the class of 1960.
After high school, she worked as a medical transcriptionist. She also worked at Maine Medical Center for many years. Her favorite “job” was helping take care of of her grandson, Lucas.
In her free time, she enjoyed cooking for family gatherings, cross-country skiing at Carter Farms, and dancing. Peggy loved to walk and Tom joined her as they would walk from their home, to the movies, and then back home. Together they saw countless movies and made many friends along the way.
Peggy was predeceased by her sister, Donna Webb.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Turkewitz of South Portland; son, Todd and Jenifer Turkewitz of South Portland, daughter, Shawna Shield of Dover Point, N.H.; a brother, Robert and Margo Crozier of South Portland; a grandson, Lucas Turkewitz; a brother-in-law, William and Nicole Turkewitz of Buxton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff at Pinnacle Health and Rehab for their care and compassion during Peggy’s time there.
