J. Kevin Burns
SOUTH PORTLAND – J. Kevin Burns passed away on March 28, 2023 after a brief illness. He was born in Lawrence, Mass., the son of James and Josephine Burns.
Kevin attended St. John’s Prep School and he received his B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1956 from Merrimack College. He served in the Marine Corps as a first lieutenant from 1956 to 1958. Kevin remained a very proud member of the Marines throughout his life.
Kevin worked for the FAA at JFK and then in Portland. He then joined Portland Cement which led him to bring his family to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada for a short time. The bulk of his career was spent at Blue Rock Industries in Westbrook where he served several roles, ending his time there as executive vice president. He worked most recently at Sebago Technics as their resident engineer on MDOT jobs.
Kevin was predeceased by his parents; his brother, John; and two grandchildren, Rebecca S. Sloan and Kevin Burns Sloan.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Dianne S. (Angell) Burns; his children Brenda Sloan and her husband Michael, Kristie Burns and Erin Burns; his grandchild, Katelyn Parsons and her husband Keith; and by three great-grandchildren, Delaney, Neave and Eleanor; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Kevin was dedicated to his family. He loved being at family events and many would enjoy his company on Friday evenings. He traveled quite often with his wife and visited many wonderful destinations.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5 at Hobbs Funeral Home on Cottage Road in South Portland.
