David Winslow Levine
BEDFORD, Va. – David Winslow Levine, 63, of Bedford, Va., passed away on Feb. 2, 2023.
David was born in Portland to the late Robert M. and Jane Winslow Levine. He graduated from Bonny Eagle High School and Alfred University before relocating to Virginia.
David was a very talented carpenter and was a self-employed contractor; however, horses were his passion! He was the past president of the Roanoke Valley Horsemen’s Association, and an accomplished American Saddlebred rider and trainer. You could always count on David to be on the rail cheering on his favorite horse and rider or helping his children get their mounts ready for a show or family trail ride. Nieces and nephews fondly recall his trips to Maine where he continued to share his love of horses and riding with them.
Most importantly, David’s children were his world! David helped coach soccer and basketball for all four of his children. He never missed a practice or a game and he touched the lives of many Bedford County and Roanoke County youth, both on and off the field and court.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Caleb W. Richmond, Samuel W. Levine, Jennifer M. Levine, and Caroline J. Levine; the mother of his children, Marie Gobble Levine. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy Levine Sanborn and her husband Rick, his brother, Chip Levine and his partner Kathy Rogers and sister, Suzi Adde; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 7 at Jones, Rich and Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland, where a memorial service will follow at 2:30 p.m.
Online condolences may be shared with his family at http://www.jonesrichandbarnes.com.
