Falmouth High School senior Camden J. Hamilton has accepted an offer to attend the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Maine Congresswoman Chellie Pingree nominated Hamilton in December.
“Acceptance to a U.S. service academy is extremely competitive and reflects highly on a student’s scholarship, community service, and character,” Pingree said in a press release.
Hamilton “has demonstrated an incredible commitment to serving the country and a maturity well beyond his years,” she said.
In his letter requesting a nomination to the Air Force Academy, Hamilton wrote that he has always felt it was his “destiny” to serve his country.
He hopes to serve as a combat rescue officer in the Air Force.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
