Eleanor Laude, (née Mesick) of Kennebunk, passed away at the age of 92 on March 3, 2023.
She was born in Westfield, Massachusetts, to Eugene and Johanna (Rais) Mesick, one of six children. She graduated from Westfield High School and attended Westfield State University. At 17, she met Alfred Laude, the charming and handsome star of the AIC football team and the love of her life. They married when she was 20.
With Alfred, she dedicated herself to her family. She worked to help support the family over the years and also had many hobbies; her favorite was going to flea markets, where she had an eye for the many treasures she collected over the years and often gifted to her family and friends. Eleanor loved fashion and always looked beautiful. She enjoyed traveling and going to casinos and restaurants. Eleanor enjoyed reading and was always up on current events; she was smart and sharp, often beating her family in Wordle right to the end. With her beloved Alfred, Eleanor loved walking Kennebunk Beach, and when time stole their ability to take those arm-in-arm walks, they enjoyed driving to the beach and admiring the ever-changing water.
Eleanor was married to Alfred for 68 years, they had five children, 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was tremendously proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and built a unique relationship with each of them. They loved her deeply. To quote a friend, while Eleanor fiercely loved her family, she always had the energy to love so many others she didn’t have to. She possessed a generosity of spirit that she demonstrated by sharing her love with people of all generations. She left her mark on many lives.
She is pre-deceased by and now joins her husband Alfred, who passed on Nov. 30, 2018, and her son Alfred J. Laude, Jr. who passed on Feb. 8, 2018. She is survived by Alfred Jr.’s wife, Joan Laude of Wells, and their children, Cara Pierce, and husband Cody, great-grandchildren Lucas, Natalie, and Madelyn, Nicholas and wife Nicole, great-grandchildren Sofia and Sonny, and Vincent and wife Morgan; son David and his wife Peggy of Kennebunk, and their children John (fiancé Rachel) and Kate; son Paul and his wife Sandra of Bernardston, Massachusetts, and their children, Christina Main and husband Craig, great-grandchildren Grace, Avery and Clare, son Michael and his partner Melissa Klepacki and great-grandchild Lucy; daughter Kathleen Kerr and her husband Ken of Austin, Texas, and their children Alex and wife Katie, Greg (fiancé Sarah) and David (fiancé Mollie); and daughter Margo Emerson and her husband Stephen of Arundel, and their children Stephen and Jack. She is also survived by her loving niece and nephews.
A Memorial Mass to celebrate Eleanor’s life will be held at St. Martha’s Holy Spirit Parish, 30 Portland Road, Kennebunk, on March 25, 2023, at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Eleanor Laude may be made to the St. Anthony Franciscan Monastery, P.O. Box 980, Kennebunkport, ME 04046.
