John R. “Jack” Donahue
EASTON, Mass. – John R. “Jack” Donahue, 82, of Easton, Mass., formerly of Acton, Mass. and Ft. Myers, Fla., passed away after a long illness on Feb. 19, 2023.
Jack was born and grew up in Portland, Maine. He was the son of the late Stephen and Mary (Scanlon) Donahue.
After graduating from UMaine Orono, Jack enlisted in the US Navy and worked as a supply officer on the USS Kankakee, rising to the rank of Captain. He showed great pride in serving his country.
Being a devoted family man was always a priority for Jack. He and his wife Claire lived in Acton for 38 years, where their daughters grew up. Jack was employed at Hanscom Air Force Base as a logistician and served in the Naval Reserves for many years. He obtained an MBA from Western New England College.
Jack loved the art of storytelling, and would spend time every night telling heartwarming tales of unlikely heroes to his daughters, later expanding his storytelling to neighborhood Christmas gatherings and small venues. Jack enjoyed traveling, eating out, spending time with family, and mocha frappes.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Claire (Lussier) Donahue; his two daughters Suzanne Williams and her husband Andrew of Easton, Mass. and Michelle McCauley and her husband Wiley of Thornton, NH; his sister, Mary Blanchard and her husband Frank; and five loving grandchildren, Lily Williams, Nick Williams, Patrick Williams, Clara McCauley and John McCauley. He was also the brother of the late James and Stephen Donahue. Jack was a loving brother, husband, father, and grandfather.
Jack’s funeral mass will be at Holy Cross Church, 225 Purchase St, Easton on March 6 at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will be held privately by his family at the VA National Cemetery, Bourne.
