SUMNER — A standoff that began Sunday night between a person barricaded in a home on Butterfield Road and law enforcement officials was still going on as of 7 p.m. Monday evening, Oxford County Chief Deputy James Urquhart said.
About 20 law enforcement personnel from the Sheriff’s Office and Cumberland County Tactical Unit remained at the scene near the intersection of Routes 140 and 219.
The incident began Sunday night, prompting the Sheriff’s Office to request Sumner and Canton fire departments to close roads leading to the intersection. The roads will remain closed until the the standoff ends, Sheriff Christopher Wainwright said.
Schools were notified and buses were rerouted, Wainwright said.
