Thomas L. Calder

YARMOUTH – Thomas L. Calder, 60, passed away on Jan. 25, 2023 after a brief illness. He was born in Portland and grew up on Chebeague Island.

He served many years on the Cumberland and Chebeague Island Fire and Rescue Departments and several years as Fire Chief when Chebeague Island seceded from Cumberland. Through the years he worked tirelessly for a variety of businesses and municipalities including Chebeague Sand and Gravel, Chebeague Transportation Company, Town of Cumberland, MSAD 51, Town of Chebeague Island Public Works, and most recently O’Reilly’s Auto Parts. He also co-owned two family businesses during his lifetime, Tom’s Lawn Care and Calder’s Clam Shack.

He enjoyed spending time with his large extended family, playing with his cats, clamming on Chebeague, mowing lawns, plowing roads, and listening to country music (especially John Denver). He will be most remembered as a practical jokester.

He is survived by his children, Tracy, Tim and Tiffany Calder; his siblings Leanne Libby, Milt Calder and his wife Alicia, and Kevin Calder; his nieces and nephews Gail and Scott Libby, Alexander and Julia Calder; and many cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his father, Richard and his mother, Dianne.

Visiting hours will be held and memories will be shared Tuesday Feb. 21 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, in Yarmouth.
