Cape Elizabeth erupted for 33 points in the third quarter to break open a close game and went on to a 79-53 win over Wells in a season opener Friday night at Cape Elizabeth.
The Capers, who made 15 3-pointers, closed the first quarter on a 15-2 run to go up 20-10. Wells got as close as 22-19 in the second quarter, but Cape Elizabeth drained seven 3s in the third quarter as it opened a 60-28 advantage.
Tony Dell’Aquila led a balanced attack with 15 points. Alex Van Huystee added 13 points, Sam Lombardo finished with 11 and James Rickman had 10.
Wells was paced Jeremy Therrien with 19 points and Keith Ramsay with 16.
CHEVERUS 67, BANGOR 42: Silvano Ismail poured 33 points – 16 in the third quarter – as the Stags routed the Rams in Portland.
Cheverus led 16-5 after one quarter, 32-12 at halftime and 57-21 after three quarters.
Harry Fitzpatrick scored 11 points and Matt Holmes had 10 for Bangor.
GORHAM 68, WINDHAM 58: Ashton Leclerc scored 21 points, and the Rams went 8 for 11 from the free-throw line down the stretch to pull away from the Eagles at Windham.
Caden Smith finished with 17 and Gabe Michaud and Wyatt Nadeau tossed in 10 apiece for Gorham.
Creighty Dickson paced Windham with 14 points. Owen Combes and Conor Janvrin each scored 12, and Quinton Lindsay had eight points and 14 rebounds.
BONNY EAGLE 60, DEERING 49: Elliot Bouchard recorded 20 points, 22 rebounds and seven blocked shots to carry the Scots past the Rams in Standish.
Hayden Campbell added 13 points.
Evan Legassey scored 18 points, Trip Marston had 14 and Justin Jamal finished with 12 for Deering.
WAYNFLETE 63, SACOPEE VALLEY 42: Nico Kirby scored nine of his 16 points in the third quarter as the Flyers went on a 22-2 run to erase a halftime deficit against the Hawks in Portland.
Connor Ford and Cole Isherwood each added nine points for Waynflete, which trailed 27-23 at halftime.
Sacopee’s Carson Black made five 3-pointers and finished with 23 points.
THORNTON ACADEMY 90, MASSABESIC 29: Braden Camire led four players in double figures and the Golden Trojans outscored the Mustangs 34-0 in the third quarter in a win at Saco.
Camire had 19 points, Wyatt Benoit scored 14, Will Davies added 11 and Josh Ney tossed in 10.
Joshua Vigue scored seven points for Massabesic.
MARSHWOOD 62, MT. ARARAT 28: Andrew Perry scored 19 points, Cooper Aiguier added 14, and the Hawks rolled past the Eagles in South Berwick.
Jason Singer chipped in with nine points.
John Martin led Mt. Ararat with 10 points.
FALMOUTH 63, BIDDEFORD 38: Judd Armstrong scored 28 points for the Navigators in a win over the Tigers at Biddeford.
Paul Dilworth contributed 12 points and Henry Stowell had eight.
Drew Smyth scored 11 points, including three 3-pointers, for Biddeford. Jake Samoilov added nine.
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 70, FREEPORT 50: Nate Hebert scored 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and the Patriots built a big lead in the first half against the Falcons in Freeport.
Michael Ryan added 14 points and Max Kenney had 13. Gray-New Gloucester led 24-9 after one quarter and 44-16 at halftime.
Connor Slocum led Freeport with 16 points, while JT Pound scored 12 points and Conner Smith had 11, including three 3-pointers.
WESTBROOK 62, BRUNSWICK 47: Quincy Seavey scored 25 points, including six 3-pointers, to pace the Blue Blazes to a win over the Dragons in Brunswick.
Ben Eugley tossed in 11 points and Kelson Custodio added 10 for Westbrook, which built a 39-18 advantage in the first half.
Thomas Harvey led Brunswick with 17 points. Noah Johnson and Jared Similien chipped in with 11 apiece.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH 52, TRAIP ACADEMY 35: Brady Croteau and Landen Johnson each tallied 14 points, and the Seagulls opened the second half with an 18-6 run to pull away from the Rangers at Old Orchard Beach.
James Erickson made a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 10 points.
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 60, ST. DOMINIC 56: Cal Nice collected 27 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks to lead the Panthers to an overtime victory over the Saints in Auburn.
Nice had five points and Moses Semuhoza scored six of his 14 in overtime. Semuhoza also grabbed 10 rebounds.
Taylor Varney scored 22 points and Jack Brocke had 12 for St. Dominic.
