Maine State Police are investigating the death of a trucker whose body was discovered on the Maine Turnpike in Wells on Monday afternoon.
Troopers responded around 1:31 p.m. to reports of a motor vehicle crash at mile marker 23 southbound, where they found a tractor-trailer truck that had gone off the road. The truck, which did not strike any other vehicles, came to rest on a grassy embankment beside the highway.
State police in a tweet said that the truck driver was deceased, but did not say where his body was found when they arrived.
“There was no significant damage to the tractor-trailer and it’s possible the death was a medical issue,” state police said, adding that the trucker’s identity won’t be released until next of kin have been notified.
