Helen Doheny, 93, of Kennebunk, formerly of Wells and Oakland, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022, surrounded by love and family.
She was born in Paterson, New Jersey, one of eight children of Marie (Kelly) and David Lancaster.
Helen was an avid walker and could often be seen on Gooch’s Beach or on the streets of Kennebunk village. She loved the ocean and into her 90s dared to take the plunge with glee into the Maine waters. Helen always had a kind word for everyone and was famous for her lemon meringue pie.
Loving, kind, and courageous, Helen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend. She was predeceased by her husband Tom, son Joseph, daughter Pamela, and daughter-in-law Doris. She is survived by daughters Claire Doheny (Jay Bartner) and Mary Welch (Michael) and son Thomas; grandchildren Eliza Bartner Nichols, Michael Bartner, David Bartner, Anna Doheny, Laura Callanan, and Sarah Welch; great-grandchildren Jasper, Henry (Rudy), Scarlet, Opal, Iris, Linden, Lida Rose, and Shay.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022, at 11 am at St. Martha’s Church (Holy Spirit Parish) in Kennebunk. Burial will occur at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to: St. Judes Children’s Hospital, Good Shepherd Food Bank, or a charity of your choice.
